The traditional elders of Hiiraan region were asked to attend an special meeting in Mogadishu by the office of UN assistance mission (UNSOM) in Mogadishu, Somali capital.
UNSOM is trying to convince Hiiraan elders to participate Jowhar conference, which is expected to form an inter-regional interim administration for Middle Shabelle and Hiiraan regions in central Somalia.
The UNSOM’s mediation efforts come as the elders of Hiiraan region in central Somalia have boycotted state formation conference in Jowhar following power-sharing disagreement
Somali federal government and international community are making an effort to accomplish creation of a semi-autonomous state for the nighbouring middle Shabelle and Hiiraan regions.
