An 89-year-old woman has been killed alongside two others by Somali herders in Gafarsa area Garbatulla Sub-County, Isiolo County.

The three had been kidnapped by the herders before their mutilated bodies were found dumped at a forest.

Two other people are said to be missing with police saying they are pursuing the suspects.

Area Deputy County Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto said 13 armed men had been spotted in the area before they struck and later sped off towards Garissa County.

He suspected that the attackers were retaliating following last month’s incident where a Somali herder was killed in Kuri area.

Recently the Borana and Somali communities in the area clashed over grazing areas.

The government has already ordered all Somali herders return to their Garissa county since they were causing tension in Isiolo.

Rutto further called on local leaders and politicians from both communities to intervene and urge calm among their communities as police continue with investigations.
