Hundreds of local merchants and shop owners on Saturday marched against an escalating inflation, which has largely effected people‘s daily lives. The demonstration which occurred in the capital Garowe has barricaded city’s market transactions as Somali shilling become priceless.
A new bank note which is recently printed by powerful businessmen with the support of the government has been spiraling inflation across the region.
The capital’s main market on Saturday remained closed as Government is taking separate meetings with the local merchants in an effort to re-open the market.
In the state markets one dollar is equivalent to 26,000 of the Somali shilling, making the life hard. The inflation had sparked raising food prices in a country which has remained in the grip of violence since the collapse of former ruling Gov’t in 1991.
