Southwest State to tighten Baidoa security – INO

Baidoa(INO)- Southwest regional government said on Thursday that it plans to tighten the overall security of Baidoa town  in southern Somalia where over 30 people were killed in twin attacks a week ago.

Sources close the administration  suggest that the security committee of Southwest government has held talks led by president Sharif Hassan at the presidential palace about the securing Baidoa town sits interim Southwest Administration.

The police have been checking people and vehicle movements to thwart further Al-shabab onslaughts amid more troops have been deployed in Baidoa town to carry out anti terror operations.

Troops searched vehicles entering the town and increased the number of checkpoints in the town along with foot patrols, according to police officials.

Somali military court yesterday sentenced 7 suspects who were accused of being behind the latest attack in Baidoa town.

Prosecutors said the court heard the case for about a week following witness evidence before handing over the sentence.

“5 of the suspects were sentenced to death, one was sentenced to three years imprisonment and the other one was released after he was found not guilty” chairperson of the Somali Court, Ali Hassan Shute said.
