Afgoi(INO)-Southwest state President Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan has survived landmine blast along Afgoi-Arbiska road in southern Somalia on Monday, Idale News Online reports.
Shariif Hassan Sheikh Adan’s convoy is said to have waded into a minefield laid by suspected Al Shabaab militants while driving into Lafoole area.
Presidential spokesman Abdulkadir Nadara told BBC Somali Service that Southwest state leader has escaped unhurt from the landmine attack. “He has escaped unharmed and he will be talking to the media,” said Nadara.
No body claimed responsibility for the attempt on the life of Adan, but Al Shabaab is known for targeting Somalia officials with apparently coordinated terror attacks.
Somali government forces aided by African Union peacekeepers have raided Al Shabaab hideouts in Bay and Bakool regions.
