A Somali national who is one of 118 prisoners held at a jail in Mumbai, the largest city in India said they are facing poor living conditions, including lack of health care, food shortage and clean water.
Ahmed Mohamed Roble, the prisoner has asked the federal government of Somalia for help in their release from the prison, where they are being held over piracy related charges for several years.
“We were 120 prisoners held at the prison, but two of us died in the jail over health conditions,” Abdirisack Nurre, a another Somali inmate said while speaking with Radioo Shabelle by phone.
He said the prisoners held in Mumbai were fishermen who have been captured by international naval vessels off Oman coastline and Somalia. He said they are innocent and request for immediate release.
