Somalia: Fierce fighting renews in central Somalia

Intense fighting between two tribal militiamen has again renewed in Somalia’s central town of Beledweyne, the regional capital of Hiiraan, reports said.

Idale News Online correspondent in the town Osman Aden Arays says residents in Howlwadag village began fleeing their houses as both sides are exchanging heavy and small weapons.

The city’s situation has been tense since Tuesday after two armed clan militia fighters engaged in a deadly battle that left at least five people.

Separately, Shabelle river has burst its banks and flooded to several villages in Beledweyne, making the living situation of the ordinary people very complicated.

Beledweyne, a key town in Somalia’s central Hiiraan region, which lies some 325Km north of Mogadishu. The city is currently under Somali federal government troops and their AMISOM ally.
