Somali Police Force has on Tuesday celebrated the 73rd anniversary of its formation in Mogadishu and parts of the country under tight security.
President Hassan Sheikh, deputy PM Mohamed Omar Arte and other high-ranking police officials attended the event which was held at police transport headquarters in Abulaziz district in Mogadishu.
Somali police – the main civil law enforcement agency of the country was established on 20th December, 1943 by Italian colony and it served as one of the principal organs of the Somali Armed Forces.
After the start of the civil war in the early 1990s, the Somali Police Force essentially ceased to operate due to lack of government and rule of law in the horn of Africa country.
