The spokesman of the internal security ministry of Somalia Abdikamil Mo’alin Shukri said government troops have carried out an operation at Elasha Biyaha area, located on the outskirts of Mogadishu on Tuesday night.
“The army has launched the operation following a tip-off from the local residents that led to the capture of the Al shabaab leader,” said the spokesman of the security ministry.
The spokesman did not release the name of the alleged Al shabaab leader detained in the army operation in Elasha Biyaha area, around 18Km south-west of Mogadishu.
Quoting Senior security officials, Radio Shabelle reported that the detained Al shabaab leader and three other accomplices were planning suicide attacks in Mogadishu before their capture.
Somali government said it has put its security forces on high alert to prevent Al shabaab attacks in the capital during the holy month of Ramadan.
