Somali president says election will take place on time, calls for unity

The president of the federal republic of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said the general elections will take place on time in a free‚ fair and transparent manner.

The president has rejected speculation that the next elections may be delayed and said any attempt at political scoring over the holding of elections should be avoided by all stakeholders.

Speaking at a press conference held in Mogadishu, Mr Mohamud said Somalia can’t plague into new political chaos again, calling on the leaders of regional states to reduce political tensions.

“The regional administrations should work together and help the country move out of the current political crises about the upcoming elections,” said Somali president.

Considering the short time available before the elections, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, president of the federal republic of Somalia has on Sunday approved the 2016 electoral process in a presidential decree without vote in parliament.
