Muqdisho(INO)-Unidentified gunmen have critically wounded a Somali MP in a drive-by shooting in the Somali capital, the latest in string of attacks targeting the country’s legislative body members, officials said Saturday.

Mr. Yusuf Dirir and his colleague Abdalla Boss were attacked on the major Maka Al-Mukarama road on their way  to the parliament. Both MPs survived the attack but with injuries. They were taken to the Shifa Hospital.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, however, it carries the hallmarks of  Al-Shahab group.

Witnesses told HOL that the attackers fired on the car carrying the MPs from a passing vehicle before they escaped the scene.

Somalia’s security officials said investigations were underway as security forces moved to pursue the attackers.

No comment could be reached from Somali authorities on the latest attack.

Al-Shabab fighters stepped up attacks across Somalia since the group was ousted from the capital and key strongholds including the lucrative Kismayo town.
