Somali Info minister accused of interfering independent media

The minister of information of the federal government of Somalia Mohamed Abdi Hayir Maraye has been accused of interfering the country’s independent media.

Abshir Mohamed Aden, an academic and retired journalist said the minister formed a new council of the independent media, without a wider consultation with  Journalists and media organizations.

“The new council of media appointed by the information minister can’t represent Somalia’s independent media,” said Aden

The cabinet ministers of Somalia’s federal government approved the controversial media council, despite rejection by the whole Somali media professionals and journalists’ unions.
