Gunmen, thought to be members of Al Shabaab have shot and killed a prominent elder at an area in the outskirts of Mogadishu on Thursday night, reports said.
The elder whose name was identified as Abdirashid was killed outside a mosque in Arbiska village by suspected Al Shabaab assailants armed with pistols.
The motive behind the assassination of the elder, and identity of assassins remain unclear but it becomes the latest in string on killings in Mogadishu and nearby suburbs in the past.
Mogadishu has been beset by violence and rampant attacks by Al Shabaab fighters who are struggling to oust the UN-backed Somali federal government.
