Baledwein (INO) — The leaders of Somalia and Djibouti paid on Sunday a historic visit to the central town of Beledwein hich hosts the biggest military base for Djibouti peacekeepers, Idale News Online reports.
Local elders and Hiiraan administration officials have welcomed Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Ismail Omar Gelle at the city’s airport and then escorted to the base of Djibouti peacekeepers outside the town.
Accompanied by ministers and army commanders from both countries, the leaders held talks about the war on Al shabaab with AMISOM and Somali military commanding officers and officials of Hiiraan regional administration.
Speaking side-by-side at Djibouti military base, both Mohamud and Gelle urged combat troops to step up their fight against Al shabaab rebel group and make sure peace and stability of the horn of Africa nation.
The milestone two-day visit by Djibouti president Ismail Omar Gelle to Somalia was to thank thousands of Djibouti troops for their service in the war-torn country which is currently struggling to defeat Al shabaab group with the help of AU forces.
