Seven civilians killed in suspected U.S. airstrike in Somalia

Suspected U.S. military jets carried out an overnight airstrikes on Somali villages located near the southern town of Kismayo, what is believed to be a raid on Al Shabaab targets, residents said.

A resident, speaking on condition of anonymity said the warplanes bombed indiscriminately on rural villages, including Al shabaab controlled Berhani located, 50 kilometers west of Kismayo city.

At least seven pastoralists, including some children have been killed and eight wounded in the airstrikes which was the latest in series of aerial bombings against Al shabaab strongholds in Somalia.

Meanwhile, Abdirashid Mo’alin Gaas, a senior Somali army commander in the outskirts of Kismayo town said the air raids have claimed lives of innocents civilians in the rural areas under the control of the militants.
