National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) forces have arrested five suspected Al-Shabaab fighters in a security operation in Hilwa district, north the capital Mogadishu.
The spokesman of Ministry for internal security, Abdikamil Mo’allim Shukri said the forces raided houses in Suka-Holaha neighborhood where they were targeting Al-Shabaab suspects in the area.
“NISA had prior intelligence before the operation against the militants was conducted in Yakshid district mid last night. The security forces arrested five Al-Shabaab militants, it was a very successful operation,” Shukri said.
The security forces foiled a bomb attack in which the Al-Shabaab wanted to use it with an autorickshaw, according to Shukri.
Shukri said the operations would be continuous as it will be jointly conducted by the security forces and AU forces.
A local resident declined his name said that the forces carried out home to home search to ensure the security at all neighborhoods of the district.
“The security forces backed by African Union Peacekeeping (AMISOM) troops have combed suburbs of the district as they conducted door to door inspections,” he said.
The Somali security forces backed by the Africa Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops have increased operations to flush out insurgents from the restive Mogadishu and its environs especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
