The administration of Rabdhure town in Somalia’s south-western Bakol region said Somali government troops and AMISOM soldiers have unleashed an anti-militant push.
Giving an interview to IdaleNews.com, Rabdhure district commissioner Mohamed Kheyr Salad said the new offensive was aimed to to liberate areas remaining under the control of militants.
Mr Salad said the army offensive will continue until all areas under Al shabaab control are liberated and re-open the major road connecting Rabdhure to Hudur town that has been blocked by the militants for years.
“We mobilized hundreds of SNA and AMISOM troops for fresh offensives against Al Shabaab militants in the rural areas between Rabdhure and Hudur towns,” said Salad.
The official’s comments followed an ambush attack on Somali military convoy near Hudur town, the headquarters of Bakol region on Thursday.
