Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamed has failed to meet with the traditional elders of Hiiraan while he is in Beledweyne town for the third day in row, reports said.
The local elders walked out of the first meeting held in Beledweyne on Saturday, after disagreeing the president’s proposal to convene with elders of each clan separately.
The elders demanded from the president during the failed meeting to hold comprehensive reconciliation, equal power sharing and transfer Jowhar conference to Beledweyne town.
The president is trying to end the divisions among the clans over the enter-regional state formation conference in Jowhar town, the regional capital of middle Shabelle region.
Jowhar meeting which is hampered by disagreement between clan elders over the power-sharing is designed to build a federal state for Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions in central Somalia.
At least three people were wounded when hundreds of Beledweyne residents, including women and youths have staged anti-president demonstration on Saturday.
