Somalia’s National Leaders Forum (NLF)  is entering its third day in Mogadishu as Somali Leaders convene to discuss upcoming Presidential and parliamentary elections in 2016.

The Forum was also attended by top Somali leaders including President and Prime Minister of Somalia,  Hassan Shiekh Mohamud and Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke.

Presidents of Jubbland, South West, Puntland and Galmudug are also in attendance at NLF.

The federal government and regional administrations leaders have convened to discuss implementation of the previous National Consultation Forum electoral model.

Puntland, a semi-autonomous region in northeast of Somalia has refuse to accept a proposed Mogadishu allocation of 7 representatives in the forthcoming upper house.

Despite the deadlock over the power-sharing model,  National Leaders Forum approved Somalia’s National Security Policy (NSP), according the office of the president.

The Provisional Federal Constitution states that the original four-year term of the current federal legislative branch (the Federal Parliament) of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) ends in August 2016 while the federal executive term ends in September 2016.
