Suspected Al shabaab fighters have fired five mortar rounds at Halane, the biggest military base for the African Union mission in Somalia (AMISOM) on Saturday night, reports said.
Several mortar shells reportedly landed into the AMISOM base at the evening on Saturday night, while others struck nearby residential areas, adjacent to Aden Adde International airport.
Speaking to Media, AMISOM force spokesman, Joe Kibet has denied local media reports that their base came under heavy mortar shells fired by Al shabaab militants.
“There was no any mortar attack on Halane compound, it is baseless and propaganda,” said Kibet, while giving an exclusive interview with Radio Shabelle station.
Officials of the local security forces of Somali federal government who spoke too Radio Shabelle said they have reached the site, where the mortars were fired and launched an investigation to establish if there were any civilian casualties,
This is not the first attack in which AU forces’ Halane base in Mogadishu, which also houses diplomatic missions has come under terrorist attack from Al-Shabaab militants.
