Kenya has resumed on Wednesday exporting of the narcotic leaves known as Khat to Mogadishu after a week-old ban by the federal government of Somalia.

Two cargo planes carrying tones of Khat from Kenya landed at Aden Adde International airport in Mogadishu, as the city’s roads reopened on Wednesday.

Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his Kenyan counterpart Uhuru Kenyatta have held a closed-door meeting in Mogadishu, on the sidelines of IGAD heads of state summit on Tuesday.

The flights were suspended last week after purported controversial remarks by Meru Governor Peter Munya who was accused of interference in Somalia integrity.
