The IGAD Assembly of Heads of State and Government held its 29th Extra-Ordinary Summit on 9th December 2016 in Addis Ababa under the chairmanship of Hailemariam Desalegn, Prime Minister of Ethiopia and the Chairperson of the IGAD Assembly.
During the one-day meeting, the head of states of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to discuss current situations in the Republic of South Sudan and the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The Assembly was attended by the president of the east African country, including Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia who is leaving office by the end of December.
Several IGAD member states, including Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda and Djibouti have contributed troops to the African Union mission in Somalia (AMISM) who are helping Somalia in the fight against Al shabaab.
