A delegation led by the IGAD envoy for Somalia Mohamed Abdi Afey has arrived in Garowe city amid talks between the federal government and Puntland state over the election model.
Somali federal government and IGAD bloc are jointly working on ways to convince Puntland to except the clan based electoral mode agreed during national consultative forums in Mogadishu.
Prime minister Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke is in Garowe for the third day, where he is having talks with Puntland state leaders, including current and former presidents Abdiweli Gaas and Abdirahman Farole.
Puntland state has rejected the proposed 4.5 of Somalia’s electoral model of the upcoming presidential and parliamentary election by the end of this year, 2016.
Puntland opted for district level election, unlike other federal states, Jubbaland, Galmudug and south west state of Somalia who voted for the clan based 4.5 formula.
