The administration of Hiiraan region has vehemently denied reports that members of the mediating committee assigned to end Beledweyne clan fighting are in deadlock over the peace mission.
Speaking to Media, the deputy governor of Hiiraan Sheikh Hussein Osman said that panel made up of independent traditional elders , with the support of federal government are working to mediate the warring clans in the town.
“There is no any dispute between the mediation committee members and ministers from the federal government of Somalia. They are working jointly and effectively on the mission to defuse the tension,” said Osman.
On the other hand, the deputy governor said more 20,000 families have fled their houses after Shabelle river has burst its banks and caused flooding in their villages in Beledweyne, the headquarters of Hiiraan region.
“The flooding in Beledweyne have made Hundreds of families homeless. The IDPs fled to the outskirts of the town due to the disaster,” said Osman.
He appeal to the federal government and aid agencies to help the flood-effected families whose houses have been washed away by the river floods. The displaced families are current ling in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
