Heavy tribal fighting erupts west of Beledweyne city

A fierce battle between two armed clan militiamen has erupted west of Beledweyne, the provincial capital of Hiiraan in central Somalia on Tuesday.

The clan fighting is taking place at Baar-gacan-laaw, located around 35Km west of Beledweyne town, with reports that both rival warring sides exchanging heavy and small weaponry.

There is no current efforts to defuse the tribal violence and the details of casualties remain sketchy, according to residents Told IdaleNews.com

The region has been beset by recurrent conflict between nomadic tribes who have been fighting over waterholes, farming and grazing fields since the collapse of former military regime in 1991.
