Unidentified gunmen have shot and killed a cleaning lady working for UNHCR HQ in Mogadishu, while wounding another woman in Mogadishu attack on Sunday morning.

Eyewitnesses said pistol-wielding men in a motorbike have executed Fowsiya Hassan Elmi, a mother of five children after a rickshaw she was travelling in has been sprayed with bullets.

The attack took place in Mogadishu’s Dharkenley district as the woman and her sister who worked as cleaner at UNHCR office were heading to her workplace in the seaside capital.

The killers have managed to escape from the scene before security forces have arrived, according to a witness who spoke to Radio Shabelle by phone. The wounded was taken to hospital.

No group has yet claimed for the killing of the woman, but Al shabaab has carried out similar attacks on Government employees and law enforcers in Mogadishu in the past.

No arrests have so far been made, however, police officials said that troops were hunting for the attackers who escaped after the attack which highlights challenges facing Somali government’s efforts aimed at maintaining security of the seaside city.
