Unknown gunmen have assassinated on Saturday evening a senior Somali official in Bardere town located in the south-western region of Gedo, police said.
Confirming the incident, Bardere police chief Abdi Sheikh Hassan Elmi has indentified the slain official as Abdullahi Abdi Aden who was in charge of taxation department of the town.
“Men armed with machine guns opened fire on Aden as he was leaving a mosque after evening prayers and heading to his house,” said Bardere police boss who spoke to IdaleNews.com
The police commissioner said security forces have reached the scene of shooting and began a probe into the murder. No group has claimed responsibility for the killing.
