Suspected Al shabaab fighters launched a raid on a police station in the southern agriculture-rich district in Lower Shabelle region, 120 kilometers (74 miles) north-west of Somali capital, Mogadishu.
The overnight attack sparked hours-long gun fierce battle between the militants and Somali police soldiers at the station, according to local residents who spoke to Idale News Online by phone.
Details of the casualties were immediately unavailable as the local police officers and Al shabaab did not comment on the attack.
The town which fell to Somali and AMISOM forces in March, 2014 following a joint offensive code named Operation Indian ocean that pushed Al shabaab out of several key areas in southern Somalia.
