Govt claims victory in attack on Al shabaab base

Somali federal government has claimed military victory over a joint raid on a small town in Lower Shabelle region which is controlled by Al shabaab militants on Thursday.

Speaking in an interview with IdaleNews.com, Lower Shabelle governor Ibrahim Najah said attack on Toratorow town was a successful and inflicted heavy losses on Al shabaab.

“Somali commando unity soldiers and AMISOM have recaptured Toratorow from Al shabaab and later retreated back following their operation,” said Najah.

He did not tell where there has been any casualties on their side, but claimed killing many Al shabaab fighters in the offensive on Toratorow, some 90Km south west of Mogadishu.

The Al shabaab militants on their side claimed victory as well saying they killed several SNA and AMISOM after their convoy was attacked with a roadside bomb blast in the town.

Al shabaab has regained control of the town hours after SNA and AMISOM withdrew from it.
