A former Somali lawmaker has narrowly escaped an assassination bid after bomb fitted into his private car went off outside a hotel in Mogadishu on Saturday evening, police said.
The explosion which was aimed to assassinate Sheikh Yusuf Ali Ainte who served as a legislator in former Somali parliament happened near Wehliye hotel near Somali parliament building in Mogadishu.
Somali police officer speaking on condition of anonymity, has confirmed the attack, saying Mr. Ainte was in the hotel at the time of the car bomb blast. No one was killed or injured in the failed attack.
Afterwards, Somali police personnel have arrived the scene of the blast, and kicked off a combine-out searches for the suspects, but no arrests were made, according to the eyewitnesses.
No group has claimed credit for the bomb attack, but Al Shabaab has carried out similar car bombs in the past.
