Somalia’s Federal Indirect Electoral Implementation Team (FIEIT) has announced it suspended voting on the election of Somaliland MPs to the House of the People.

In a statement, FIEIT said it has intervened the election of Somaliland MPs in Mogadishu due to electoral dispute. It suspended the process until further notice.

The ballot to elect federal MPs representing Somaliland in the new Somalia’s parliament has been marred by disputes, electoral fraud and vote-rigging.

The electoral delegates hailing from northern Somalia have recently elected 19 MPs out of the 46 parliamentary seats allocated to the self-declared Somaliland state.
