The Ethiopian troops serving with the African Union mission in Somalia (AMISOM) have launched a security sweep in Bardere town of Gedo region on Tuesday.
According to Col Mohamud Guhad Tima-Jilac, who is a senior army commander in the city said the Ethiopian forces carried out house-to-house operations, searching anti-peace elements.
Today’s operation in Bardere town come, a day after Al shabaab has attacked Bardere town’s airport with mortar shells, targeting army bases belonging to SNA and AMISOM bases.
Bardere has been under Al shabaab control for almost seven years before it fell to Somali and AMISOM troops in 2015 following deadly offensive.
