Hundreds of families living in IDP camps on the outskirts of Galinsoor town in Mudug region are facing a dire situation as food was running out and water shortages beginning to bite.

They are facing humanitarian crisis, with women and children being the worst affected, according to a camp leader Khaliif  Derow who spoke to INO

“The situation is worse today than at any time in the past and the need is even greater, many of them are living in very poor shelter conditions, poor access to clean drinking water, education and health,” said Derow.

He said to be among victims of the drought and famine related crisis that has hit southern Somalia and the recent fighting between Al-Shabaab and Galmudug forces.

Derow urged local and international aid agencies to come to the aid of the locals who are now in dire need of humanitarian relief.

Somalia has witnessed over two decades of conflict, violence, human rights violations and natural disasters, all of which have triggered repeated waves of displacement.

Most internally displaced persons (IDPs) continue to live in dire conditions in protracted displacement.
