At least eight militants and a soldier were killed and 2 others wounded in deadly battle between government forces and Al Shabaab fighters outside Wajid town in southwest of Somalia’s Bakol region.
The fighting started after heavily Somali military forces attacked on positions controlling by Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants in El-malable area outside Wajid town, officials said.
Deputy District Commissioner for Wajid, Adow Abdurahman Jugle said that his soldiers killed at least 8 militants from Al Shabaab and confiscated AK-47 with bullets during the battle.
He added that 1 government soldier had been killed and 2 others were also wounded in the fighting against insurgents.
In an interview with Idale News Online based in Mogadishu, he vowed that his troops would continue military operations against Al Shabaab until the militants are eradicated.
No word was available from the Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants over the skirmishes outside Wajid town in southwest of Somalia’s Bakol region.
