Fierce clan fighting erupted today at the outskirts of Beledweyne town, Hiiran region, central Somalia as many casualties feared, reports say.
The fighting started just after the dawn at a Qaran-cad rural area, about 15km to Beledweyne, where Djibouti’s AMISOM contingent petrol local administration.
Sourcse say land-dispute caused the fighting after days of talks between clans collapsed, according to residents in the area.
Though, fixed number of casualties yet not known, injured people seen evacuated to Beledweyne Hospital, other people started fleeing the area after fears of fighting escalation.
Similar clashes happened many times in nearby areas, but today’s’ clashes came as elders take part a reconciliation meeting in Beledweyne to end political chaos in the region.
