Burco elects new mayor as dispute over the mayoral position soars

Somaliland’s Burco municipality Mps on Sunday sucked the town’s mayor Mohamed Muraad following a mayoral election held in Hotel Ramad. 11 MPs reportedly voted against the mayor and elected Abdirasak Shiine Faliidh as a new mayor.

Speaking at a press conference in Burco the fired official outlawed MPs session, saying thier election was null and void and could cause instability in the region. In the election deputy mayor was elected Mohamud Hassan Xodey a veteran and well-known politician across Somaliland.

“I think the proposed motion against me was an illicit one. Perhaps MPs was in a day dream and they know “the ex mayor told reporters in Burco.

The mayoral dispute emerged over a land which the Government plans to build a new market which has drawn mass opposition inside a divided MPs with the in the Burco administration.
