Several deafening blasts heard as mortar shells rained down on Somali capital, Mogadishu on Friday evening, reports said.

The mortar rounds were scattered across several parts of Mogadishu, including Al Bakaro junction, defense ministry compound, Aga-dhig area, and near Turkish-run Deva hospital.

The details of the casualties as result of nigh-time mortar shelling in Mogadishu are yet sketchy. Police launched an investigation into the attack, and will later release information.

Recently, Somali government has deployed troops into the main streets of the capital, to tighten the security and prevent possible Al Shabaab attacks during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
