Heavily armed Militants with Al Qaeda-affiliated Al shabaab have attacked Somali and Ethiopian troops’ bases at Bardere town with machine guns and mortar shells.

Al shabaab militants have fired several mortar rounds at the main airport of Bardere city in Gedo region on Monday morning, sparking hours-long gun-battle.

Col Mohamud Guhad (Tima Jilac), one of the Somali army commanders in the town said Somali and Ethiopian troops at the attacked base have killed six Al shabaab members.

“SNA and Ethiopian troops repulsed the assault and killed six Al shababa fighters in the counter-attack fire,” said Col Mohamud Guhad while speaking to Radio Shabelle by phone.

He said they captured two Al shabaab members alive and taken to city’s police custody, where they are currently being questioned.

Al shabaab did comment the attack and the military’s claim.
