For the first time since the AU mission in Somali began in 2007, AMISOM has on Tuesday put 18 Ugandan Soldiers, including top chief on trail for selling military supply.

A judge from Uganda Dick Olum said the Ugandan martial court has sentenced the UPDF chief for 1 year jail term, downed his rank, and will be deported to Uganda.

The soldiers who were serving with the African Union mission in Somalia (Amisom) have been arrested in June for selling military equipment, including 15 thousand liters of gas to Somali traders in Mogadishu.

This is the first time African Union troops have been arrested in Somalia since Amisom was established nine years ago, our correspondent Abdulaziz Mohamed Ali Hajji says.

However, the AMISOM command has confirmed the court hearing and jail sentence,  saying it would not accept “unprofessional conduct among its personnel”.
