A large military base belonging to African Union Mission in Somalia  (AMISOM) which is located Bufow vicinity near Marko town came under heavy mortar barrage on Saturday night.

The mortar bombs were fired from Shalanbod town by Suspected Al Shabaab militants, with reports that AMISOM troops have responded with artillery shells to fend off gun attack.

Local residents report heavy explosions heard across Shalanbod as a result of the mortar rounds that landed different parts of the town.

At least two civilians died in the mortar shelling by AMISOM in Janale, a nearby town held by Al Shabaab militants, according to local residents who spoke to IdaleNews.com

AU troops, together with Somali forces, have pushed the Al-Qaeda-linked militants out of Somalia’s major cities, but the group still controls rural areas and continues to launch attacks.
