Bardhere(INO) –At least 15 people have been killed after Somali and AMISOM troops attacked jungle neighborhood, which is 35 km away from the southern Somali town of Baardheere, officials and residents said Wednesday.

According to residents at Juungal, the fighting for the control of Juungal begun early hours of Wednesday morning after AU and Somali forces waged war on the defensive positions of the militants in the village resulting in the death of fifteen people mostly the warring sides.

Witnesses said, the fighting in Juungal lasted three hours after AU and Somali forces wrested control of the town from the militants.

Col. Abdullahi Osman Isaaq, an officer with the Somali army said that the fall of Juungal is very significant in their ambitious battle for the control of the strategically located town of Baardheere, known for its productive farmland.

The officer also confirmed that the latest fighting  between their side and the militants in Juungal has left 15 people dead mostly the warring sides.

The officer expected that their forces will roll into Baardheere town in a matter of hours  as the militants had already tactically retreated from the town.

Baardheere is a strategically located town in Somalia’s southwest region of Gedo, which has a vast area of productive farmland and its fall will definitely be a lethal blow to the militants which has controlled the town for a period of more than five years.
