The African Union Mission in Somalia known as (AMISOM) and Somali National Army (SNA) forces have launched a joint offensive on Al shabaab checkpoint near the southern coastal city of Kismayo on Sunday.
SNA troops supported by AMISOM forces overran & destroyed a major Al Shabaab checkpoint in Abdi Biroole area located South West of Kismayo, the current seat of the interim Jubbaland administration.
AMISOM said in its official Twitter account that commanders from the allied forces SNA forces met with clan elders and discussed the security situation in the area.
“Continued partnership in fighting against Al shabaab,” said AMISOM in a statement posted on its Twitter. The AU mission did not elaborate the casualties on Al shabaab during the operations.
Al shabaab has not commented on the AMISOM’s claim, but the militants have huge presence at the villages very close to Kismayo, a seaside city located some 500Km south of Somali capital, Mogadishu.
