Al shabaab said it fired mortar rounds at African Union forces military base in El Baraf vicinity, about 30Km south of Mahaday district in Middle Shabelle region.
Residents said several mortar shells landed in the Burundian army base in El Baraf area on Sunday morning, prompting villagers to escaped their houses.
There was no immediate reports of casualties on the Burundian soldiers who are serving with the UN-mandated African Union mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
Al shabaab, the Al Qaeda-linked militant group said it killed several AU soldiers in the mortar bombs on AMISOM base in El Baraf area in middle Shabelle region.
