Al shabaab militants regained control of a key district in central Somalia hours after Ethiopian soldiers of AMISOM contingent and SNA retreated from their bases without a battle on Saturday night.
Halgan which has witnessed several deadly attacks was a key operational hub for the AU troops in Somalia (AMISOM) who are helping the country’s army in the fight against Al Shabaab militants.
Reports from Halgan indicate that Al Shabaab fighters have moved in the town early on Sunday, seizing police and administrative buildings and lectured local residents to announce their come back.
Al Shabaab recaptured the town without encountering a battle from the retreating AU forces.
Halgan which lies in the outskirts of Beledweyne, the provincial capital of Hiiraan has changed in the hands of Al Shabaab and AMISOM troops in the past few years.
