Militants with the Al Qaeda-linked Al shabaab have seized vehicles transporting charcoal near the coastal town of Badhadhe in lower Jubba region of southern Somalia, reports said.
The armed Al shabaab fighters reportedly confiscated 6 vehicles and 40 donkey carts packed with charcoal and burnt them down at a small village located in the outskirts of the town.
Sources said the militants shot and killed 8 charcoal traders on the spot, and took several others to undisclosed location in the Lower Jubba region region.
The move follows after Al shabaab has issued a law strict banning cutting down of trees for charcoal trade in the rural areas under their control.
