Al Shabaab fighters have ambushed Somali National Army (SNA) convoy in Bakool region of southwestern Somalia on Friday morning, Baidoa reports said.
The surprise assault occurred in a village near Bakool regional district of Tiyeglow, a remote town that has been the scene of such ambushes on SNA and AMISOM convoys in the past.
Some sources added Al Shabaab attackers have encountered an overwhelming stiff resistance from Somali army soldiers who were travelling in the convoy.
After a series of setbacks on the frontline, Al Shabaab militants reverted to hit-and-run attacks on SNA and AMISOM convoys in south and central Somalia, Somali military said.
There was immediate reports of casualties on both sides, as the local authorities whom Radio Shabelle contacted on the phone did not comment on the attack by Al shabaab.
