At least 40 people have been confirmed dead in Daynuunaay Village Southern West of Somalia following an outbreak of cholera, Idale News Online reports.
The outbreak of the epidemic is linked to the shortage of water in the Bay region,
Most of the people died in the villages of Daynuunaay and Buullo Horan
Earlier this month, at least 31 People died of cholera outbreak in the same region with residents complaining lack of assistance from the aid agencies and government.
The chairman of Daynuunaay Village Zakariya Ali Yarrow and Residents are worried that the small villages could be just as vulnerable to the outbreak due to lack of sufficient medicines and hospitals in the area.
Cholera, a highly contagious intestinal infection, is transmitted by water soiled by human waste. The disease leads to diarrhea, dehydration and death if untreated.
Meanwhile, Somalia is facing its worst drought in decades. The humanitarian crisis has hit many regions in Southern, Central and Northern Somalia with many people needing emergency aid.
