Somalia starts registration of presidential candidates

The electoral body of Somalia has started Thursday enrollment of the presidential candidates who want to vie for the president in the forthcoming election set to take place next month.

The registration began at a parliamentary office in the presidential palace in Mogadishu, where the candidates have been given access to register their candidacy before the ballot.

A number of candidates, including former president Transitional Federal Government (TFG) Sheikh Sharif rushed to the office run by the electoral body and had their named registered with $30,000.

The presidential aspirants have until January 29 to register their candidacy at the electoral body office in Villa Hargeisa before the election which is scheduled for 8th February, 2017.
