Despite ban, minister of Youth & sports elected MP

The outgoing Somalia’s youth and sports minister Mohamed Abdullah Nuh has been elected as a federal MP in Hir-Shabelle lower house election despite ban from the country’s electoral body.

Mr Nuh was disqualified from the election after his security guards have involved in a shootout at the polling station in Jowhar in 18 November, which left at least three people wounded.

The minister has retained his lower house seat after beating with his main contender Hinda Abdullah Omar with majority 45 votes in an unexpected election held early on Saturday morning.

FIEIT disqualified Minister Nuh and his opponent Ahmed Sheikh Iro from the election for causing electoral violence at the polling station in Jowhar last Month.

The election of the minister as MP is likely to be nullified by FIEIT which has already banned him from competing for the seat of the lower house chamber of Somali federal parliament.
