Somali deputy PM retains his Lower House seat

The outgoing deputy prime minister of Somalia Mohamed Omar Arte has been elected as federal PM after a lower house election held on Wednesday in Mogadishu. Idale News Online Reports.

Mr Arte has retained his seat after defeating his main rival contender in tough contest, 47 and 4 votes respectively, according to the poll results obtained by IdaleNews.com

Deputy PM of Somalia became the first MP elected in election of the 46 MPs representing Somaliland community to the House of the People which kicked off on Wednesday  Mogadishu.

Similar elections for the lower house chamber of the federal parliament is taking place in Jowhar and Adado towns, whereas four other MPs were elected, reports said.

In today’s election in Adado has witnessed a landmark election of three MPs, among them the transport minister of Galmudug state of Somalia Abdihakim Moalin Ahmed who won 40 votes.

Similarly, Ali Ahmed Sharif and Nadifo Farah Jama have retained their lower house seats after winning in the election with majority 49 and 44 votes respectively.
